Oriental Beef Broccoli

Yes, you can make this classic Chinese dish in your own home without the toxic MSG and processed oil. Plain pure meat and vegetables with a savory sauce all good and brain-calming. 

Don’t worry…you don’t need a culinary degree to make this dish. This recipe is super easy and simple.

Ingredients

  • 1 small orange
  • 2/3 cup beef broth, or chicken broth
  • 4 teaspoons fish sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon coconut sugar
  • 2 green onions
  • 1/3 inch fresh ginger
  • 1 head broccoli
  • 1 cup mushroom
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 cups sliced beef
  • 2 teaspoons arrowroot
  • 4 teaspoons water
  • coarse sea salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Zest and juice the orange.
  2. In a small bowl, make the sauce by combining broth, fish sauce, sugar, and orange zest and juice.
  3. Chop the green onions, keeping the green and white parts separate. Peel and grate the ginger. Separate the broccoli into florets.
  4. Slice mushroom and red bell peppers.
  5. In a wok or large frying pan heat coconut oil over medium-high heat. Add ginger, garlic, and whites of onions. Sauté for 15-20 seconds to release the flavors.
  6. Add sauce, broccoli, mushroom and red bell pepper; cover and cook for 2-3 minutes, until vegetables turns soft.
  7. Toss in the sliced beef and heat through.
  8. Mix the arrowroot and water together and add this mixture to the pan, cooking until the sauce begins to thicken about 2-3 minutes.
  9. Toss in the green bits of onion. Adjust seasoning with sea salt. Serve and enjoy!
