Almost every child loves chicken nuggets. But chicken nuggets are among the unhealthiest foods you can feed your child.
The “chicken” nuggets usually have more fat and filler than real chicken meat. As if it’s not bad enough, it’s battered and deep-fried in hydrogenated oil.
But not all chicken nuggets are created equal; fast-food chicken nuggets are notorious to be the worst. And what can beat homemade chicken nuggets made with real ingredients, and most of all with love.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup coconut flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons coarse sea salt
- 1 1/2 pounds chicken breasts
- 6 tablespoons coconut oil
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, add all of the ingredients except for the chicken, and coconut oil. Set aside.
- Cut chicken into bite-sized pieces.
- Add the chicken pieces to the large mixing bowl and stir to completely coat the chicken in the flour mixture.
- In a large saucepan on medium-high heat add about 1/2 of the coconut oil. When the oil is hot and shimmering, add chicken in small batches.
- Use tongs to turn the chicken pieces until all sides are brown. Remove chicken to a warm plate in the oven while you finish frying, adding more oil as needed.
